Promotion Product Development

Brief: Design an object that is a give away with the launch of Pelorus Sparkling Wine for Oyster Bay. The give away should engage individuals who purchase a bottle of wine that invite social interaction in a bar setting.

Designed as a give away with the launch of Pelorus sparkling wine, this set of dolphins were developed with emphasis on ‘play’ with a nod to children’s games in an adult world. This was an innovation to invite social interactions within a bar culture whilst at the same time  developing brand awareness.

The dolphin shape designed to celebrate Pelorus Jack (hence the name of the wine), a dolphin that was famous for meeting and escorting ships through treacherous waters  in Cook Strait, New Zealand between 1888 and 1912. It is said, if the crew could not see Jack at first, they often waited for him to appear to guide them through the waters.

International production – worked closely with a 3rd party PD to successfully develop each object for production run.

The Program:

  1. Old School Game: Jacks – doesn’t need to take up a lot of space and can be in an intimate setting.
  2. Material: Wood because of its ‘living’ properties and ability to take on a new life over time.
  3. Personal Challenge:
    1. Tactile – each object should feel good in your hand
    2. Longevity
    3. Steal Appeal – people should fall in love with them that they collect them over time
